Research has repeatedly shown the importance of pausing to reflect. Rather than share someone else’s wisdom with you, today’s Wednesday Wisdom is about tapping into your own wisdom! The dictionary defines wisdom as “knowledge that is gained by having many experiences in life.” You have experiences, so take time to learn from them and make choices about your one and only life.
1. Who are you and what do you want?
Knowing who you are enables you to be more intentional about how you live and become more of YOU at your best. Dan Sullivan talks about identifying your unique ability, which is essential to achieving extraordinary results. He also has fabulous insights on “wanting what you want.”
2. Where are you and why are you there?
We talk about the “Three Steps to Success.” The first step is knowing where you are. If you aren’t clear on the starting place, then you can’t plot a path to the future. Get clear and honest with yourself about your starting position. That is your launch pad to the future. Consider what behaviors (habits) and beliefs have contributed to where you are. What do you need to change to get what you want?
3. What will you do and how will you do it?
David Allen emphasizes the importance of “the next action.” Too many times we allow ourselves to get overwhelmed by the enormity of a project. His book Getting Things Done reminds us that to get unstuck you can identify and do the next action. Create some momentum by taking one step in the direction you need to go.
4. Who are your friends, colleagues, and support team and how can they help?
Better together is the idea here. According to Matthew Lieberman, a neuroscientist at UCLA and author of Social: Why Our Brains are Wired to Connect, human connection is your superpower that makes you more productive, happier, and healthier.
In her book the 7 Minute Solution, Allyson Lewis reminds us that “life will deliver exactly what you ask of it…what will you ask? Are you asking for it to deliver its very best?”
