Peak Performance

How do you define performance? According to Merriam-Webster it’s the execution of an action or something accomplished.
Are you operating at Peak Performance? To move from where you are to where you want to be we encourage you to consider four fundamentals of operating at peak performance.

  1. Preparation – there is a saying that “luck is the intersection of opportunity and preparedness.” Peak performers make their luck by being prepared. Make sure that you invest in yourself and prepare to meet opportunity.
  2. Exceptional self-awareness, self-renewal and self-management. This is characterized by little anxiety, abundant energy, an optimistic outlook, and sharp and intense mental focus. You feel in control, relaxed and peaceful.
  3. Ability to enter the “Flow State” – flow was explained by Mihaly Csíkszentmihályi in his seminal work Flow: The Psychology of Optimal Experience. He says that people are happiest when they are in a state of complete absorption, so involved in an activity that nothing else seems to matter. As a peak performer you are able to stay in the here and now, in the moment, not living in the past or looking ahead to the future.
  4. Kinetic Control – master energy and tension levels to control level of effort. How you spend your energy is critical to performance. Life is cyclical with ups and downs, highs and lows, peaks and valleys. Recognize what increases your energy levels and what depletes your energy. Make sure there is more energy increase than decrease.

To perform at peak levels you must learn and master these four fundamentals. Practice them to create the internal climate necessary for peak performance and you will accomplish more than you ever dreamed possible.
