How to Make the Most of 2022

Many leaders we worked with in 2021 talked about the importance of being intentional. In fact, one CEO shaped the management principles of his company around this concept. Being intentional is about being deliberate and we want you to deliberately decide how you will make the most of 2022.

Here are some best practices we’ve adopted over the years:

  1. Review and Celebrate – before you start to make plans, there is significant value in review and celebration. How do you know what’s working if you don’t take time to review? Review creates intention and signifies the importance of the plans you make. Celebration creates motivation to do it all again. As you reflect on 2021, what was soul satisfying? How can you do more of that?

  2. Future Focus – a powerful plan must be in service of accomplishing something bigger. As Stephen R. Covey said, “If the ladder is not leaning against the right wall, every step we take just gets us to the wrong place faster.” Define your future focus as a starting place for planning. Consider, what is your ultimate desired outcome or purpose for 2022?

  3. Remember the BIG Picture – plans don’t get completed in a vacuum.  You have many roles (family member, spouse, friend, parent, etc.) but only ONE life! Some people mistakenly create a divide between their personal and professional life. Don’t fall into the trap of looking at only one area of your life or business to create your plan. Looking at the whole picture of all your hopes, goals, dreams and ambitions to see where there is imbalance and adjust accordingly. How are you considering the bigger whole life view in your planning process?

  4. 90-Day Sprint – make your BIG plan, then break it down. A 90-day focus provides a more realistic timeframe to get things done, and a better opportunity to reset if you get off track. Every 3 months schedule a day for review and planning for the next 90 days. What is the planning rhythm that works best for you?

Your actions are creating the story of your life. If you perform a Year in Review consistently each year, over time you will capture the highlights, choose the actions and build the story that is uniquely yours!
