“Managing oneself is a REVOLUTION in human affairs. It requires new and unprecedented things from the individual, and especially from the knowledge worker. For, in effect, it demands that each knowledge worker think and behave as a chief executive officer. It also requires an almost 180-degree change in the knowledge workers’ thoughts and actions from what most of us still take for granted as the way to think and the way to act.” – Peter F. Drucker
As the CEO of your life it’s essential to have the following in place:
- Vision / Purpose – as they say, if you don’t know where you are going, all roads will get you there. Don’t waste your potential. Get clear on your Powerful Life Purpose and take action.
- Habits – identify the actions you need to help you reach your goals, achieve your dreams, and make the most of this gift that is your one and only unique life. Remember that excellence is a habit – what you are doing repeatedly. Does the sum total of your actions equal the life of your dreams?
- Decision-making – how do you make decisions? Is there a process you use? Are you good at it? Research shows that successful CEOs are decisive. That means they have an approach to making a decision, they don’t second guess themselves and they learn from decisions that don’t work out. Successful CEOs decide with speed and conviction. They are also quick to course correct when necessary.
- Flexibility – CEOs adapt as needed to what’s happening around them. They are not victims of their circumstances. Instead, they constantly scan the environment for clues, assess what’s happening and make strategic moves to take advantage of changes. They also know that setbacks and even failures are a part of being flexible and changing course. They have a growth mindset that learns from everything that happens.
You can’t lead others if you don’t lead yourself first. Promote yourself to CEO and take charge of your life! Your future self will thank you.
