YOUR Leadership Manifesto

The world is hungry for heroes, leaders who are not just great, but also good. Create a leadership manifesto to make it clear how you will be great and do good.

The word manifesto means a written statement declaring publicly the views of its issuer. A manifesto can be a call to action, a statement of principles or a document that captures ideals and intentions.  Think of it as a frame for your leadership.

Steps to create your leadership manifesto:

  1. Consider your views of leadership, work and life. What matters most to you in each of these areas? What do you value?  What do you believe? What do you know to be true?

  2. Look at other examples for ideas. Brene Brown has an excellent leadership manifesto from Daring Greatly. Read the Declaration of Independence or Martin Luther King’s “I Have a Dream Speech.” Email us and ask for a copy of the Rebel Leader Manifesto from our soon-to-be released Minibuk.

  3. Draft a manifesto that is an expression of YOU. Make short, powerful statements that are positive and encouraging. State your intentions in declarative, present tense. The most powerful words you can use are “I am”, because whatever follows that is a commitment you will make happen.

  4. Yoda-ize your manifesto by removing all hints of “try.” In The Empire Strikes Back, Yoda says “Do. Or do not. There is no try.”

  5. Live it. Review your manifesto on a regular basis. Challenge your assumptions by comparing your reality to the statements you created. How can you close the gaps and become who you were meant to be?

The world needs your greatness and your goodness. Make time to write your manifesto and create a foundation to intentionally build your leadership life.
